Hair Detox - Week Four

By the end of week three it was all feeling pretty miserable. The waxy sebum seemed to have taken over, and I was beginning to wonder if my hair was ever going to look and feel gorgeous, and how much longer was this all going to go on for.  Was there ever going to be light at the end of the tunnel, and, maybe it was going to take more like EIGHT weeks rather than "four to six" as I'd previously read.  I was even having to deep clean my comb - yes, my fabulous wide toothed comb - to remove the wax as it was starting to stick to the teeth...gross!  So a simple rinse under the tap with a drop of hand soap wasn't cutting the mustard any more.  No sir!  This required extra cleaning - by hand - with damp tissue.

But now I've moved into week four and things are beginning to feel just ever so slightly different.  It feels like the worst is over and that my hair is starting to feel a little softer. Straw-head I am no more!  The teeth on my comb are no longer clogging, and I'm starting to touch my hair again....playing with the little ringlets to the underside of my hair.  I guess it's fair to say I'm on the up!  Yep, I'm looking forward to my glossy locks making their debut into the 21st Century in the very near future. 

Plus, if I haven't already mentioned it before.  I'm gradually phasing out the cooked food from my diet and re-introducing more raw food back into it.  I'm amazed and delighted at how easy and comfortable this is.  My fridge is packed full of greens....yep...greens.  That'll be the same stuff used for making salads, or juicing, or making smoothies.  My friends mission to get me green is starting to come to fruition.  I'll keep you posted...

Hair Detox - Week Three

Well, I'm half way into week three, and from the research I've done the end of this week represents the half way mark.  Hooray!  Which means that my hair begins evolving into an end product of gorgeous, healthy, shiny, thick hair...I hope!  The waxiness has increased quite dramatically since last week even though the hair itself still feels very dry.  It feels synonymous with it being in a cocoon.  And if I've got my facts right it's usually a beautiful butterfly that emerges.

At a deeper level I find the process very symbolic of where I am in my life right now.  There are some big changes going on around the way I do life, how I feel about me, and some of my beliefs.  Most of that comes from a very deep place inside.  It's safe to say the core issues are certainly being addressed at the moment.  I'm no longer my old self, for want of a better phrase, and yet I'm not my new self either...I'm somewhere in the middle.  The best way to put this into words is by saying that I'm neither here nor there. I am, however, very slowly moving toward 'there' which in itself feels pretty exciting. 

Another change is also taking place which came about by accident as a result of this process.  That being that my food is changing.  Yep, I'm moving back to raw, but it's raw with a difference.  I think I mentioned in an earlier article 'hair au naturelle' that I'd been eating cooked food for the past two years having spent five years eating mainly raw, or uncooked food.  When I get really honest with myself it's not just my skin and hair that have changed, my energy levels have too...and not for the better.

So last Thursday saw my first organic box of fruit and vegetables being delivered, and how delicious they look too :o)  I've already noticed how easy and comfortable this all feels, but I'll write more about this in a future post.

Hair Detox - Week Two

I'm now into week two of the great 'hair detox'.  My hair is now getting washed, water only (WO) every other day, and I allow it to dry naturally.  I've certainly noticed that it's changing.  It's still incredibly dry, which is actually more noticeable when I wash it, and it still has a 'straw-like' quality about it when it's dry.  It resembles a combed woolly mass when it's damp.  I know, I know, there are probably men out there who'd find that really attractive in a woman...please DO NOT give them my details!

What has changed is the waxy feel to my hair.  It's actually the hair on my head, as opposed to the length of it.  I did read somewhere that when I wash (WO) my hair I'm supposed to massage my head.  It's something to do with sebum and massaging it down the hair to the ends (?).  I use a wide-toothed comb on my hair twice a day, and during washing as well, which hopefully is as near good enough. 

That's the other thing I've noticed...I don't like touching my hair at the moment.  When I was using shampoo and conditioner once my hair had been straightened I loved the feel of it, and often ran my fingers through it.  It felt smooth, and it had a shine to it, although it was extremely dry.  At the moment when I look in the mirror I just see dull looking hair. At best I touch it to clip it up during the day, when I'm at home I wear it down.  Oh for neat, shiny, healthy, gorgeous hair.

Hair au naturelle

My philosophy of ‘being’ sensual is that it’s both an internal and external journey.  How we take care of our bodies, goes hand-in-hand with how we feel about ourselves.  Having spent some years eating primarily raw food, a couple of years ago I began eating cooked food again.  Up until recently the only difference I’d noticed was that I don’t quite have the levels of energy I have previously experienced.  So it came as more of a wake up call than a surprise when my massage therapist fed back that the texture of my skin has changed since returning to cooked food.  It also confirmed something else that I have been aware of which is that my hair has become increasingly drier.  No matter what product I have tried nothing has changed.  My hair feels like straw, like I am wearing a thatched roof on my head!  It just aint sexy!  And for those of you, who don’t know me very well, how my hair looks and feels is extremely important to me.

 

The feedback from my Universe is loud and clear.  Eat more raw food, but also be selective about the cooked food I choose to eat.  This would certainly support my hair and skin returning back to its former soft and delicious touch. 

 

In addition to revamping my food, I have had a hankering for a while to ‘play’ with not washing my hair, as in using water only (WO), no shampoo or conditioner.  A friend of mine did this a couple of years ago and has never looked back.  Her hair not only looks great, it feels incredible.

 

So last week, having completed my research, I began.  My last official hair wash using conventional shampoo and conditioner took place a week ago Sunday.  The FIRST official water only (WO) wash was Thursday, allowing my hair to dry naturally.  The following day I was on a course in London so I decided to straighten it as I would have done normally.  I felt a bit of a fraud doing this.  My intention is to allow my hair to dry naturally.  So no hair dryers or straighteners, as this will only dry the hair further.  I applied a little coconut oil to the ends of my hair in the hope of nourishing and moisturising the hair, but primarily to ease my guilt at having just subjected it to what felt like a rather harsh form of torture.  By the end of the day my hair felt ‘waxy’ and clumpy, and I couldn’t easily run my fingers through it.  I washed it (WO) Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday.  It’s one of those things that when I’ve been in London I feel like I need a good scrub in the shower, especially if the journey has involved using the trains and underground.  

 

From what I’ve read around ‘water only’ (WO) washing the process can take four to six weeks to do its thing.  Fortunately my hair is long enough to wear up which I am extremely grateful for as every day is a ‘bad hair’ day right now.  I could liken it to having been pulled through a hedge backwards, or even what I used to refer to as my eccentric hag look just after I’d dried my hair upside-down.  Get the picture?  It aint pretty.  But I’m determined to stay the course just to have the experience and see what changes my hair does go through.  I am a bit like a child waiting for Christmas, just ever so slightly counting the days.  In fact, to be precise, the six weeks will be up on Thursday the 14^th August!

 

And as for my friends, yes, I still have plenty of them, and yes they are totally supportive as ever.  I guess they’ve just got used to my childlike curiosity and quirkiness, as well as providing them with hours of endless entertainment.

A brief history about Dildo's (Olisbos)

The word "dildo" refers to the phallus-shaped peg used to lock an oar in position on a dory (small boat), which was inserted into a hole on the side of the boat, and is very similar in shape to the modern toy. One suggestion is that the dildo takes its name from this, although it has also been suggested that it could be a corruption of the Italian word "diletto" meaning, "delight".  Dildo in Latin means to "open wide”. 

The world's oldest known dildo is a siltstone 20-centimeter phallus found in Germany and is thought to be from the Upper Palaeolithic period 30,000 years ago.  Archaeologist’s findings show that ancient Egyptians used dildos 2,500 years ago. Dildos were also used by ancient Greeks.  A vase with a woman using a dildo depicted on it was found by scientists, and is thought to have been made in the fifth century B.C.  Another ancient Greek vase from around the 6th century B.C. depicts a scene in which a women bends over giving a man a blowjob, while another man is inserting a dildo into her anus.  Dildos are represented throughout history in erotic painting, and were often quite beautifully designed, being works of art themselves.

The first dildos were made of stone, tar, wood and other materials that could be shaped as penis and that were firm enough to be used as penetrative sex toys. Chinese women in the 15th century used dildos made of lacquered wood with a textured surface. Dildos have been found in China that date back as early as the New Stone Age, (that's more than 12,000 years ago).  A tomb recently uncovered in China contained seven cast bronze dildo’s which were thought to be used by palace maids on sexually deprived imperial concubines or aristocratic women during the Han Dynasty.  Also discovered in ancient China are hand crafted dildo’s made of wood, jade, and ivory, which double as works of art. 

In Ancient Greece women enjoyed using olisbos, which were phallic shaped objects made of wood or leather. Back in those days, olive oil wasn't just a staple of the Greek diet — it doubled as the best lube available. The Greeks believed that a lack of sperm caused "hysteria," or a wandering uterus, in women. Greek men who left home for long periods of time to fight in wars often gave their wives olisbos to prevent hysteria (a link that lasted well into the 20th century).  Celtic women danced beneath the full moon in the freshly plowed fields, sometimes even ritually masturbating themselves with short-handled brooms (to bring fertility to the earth before planting). Sometimes they would coat the broomstick with psychoactive drugs!
 
The word ‘dildo’ first appeared in English print in 1610.  By the time of the Renaissance, the dildo had become an art form.  Members of the upper classes had dildos custom made from silver, ivory, and other precious materials.

Rubber dildos, usually incorporating a steel spring for stiffness, became available in the 1940s. This was a less than satisfactory arrangement because of the potential for serious injury from cuts from the spring when the rubber finally cracked, and came apart. 

Later, PVC dildos with a softer PVC filler became popular. Most of the inexpensive dildos sold today are made this way.  PVC and jelly-rubber toys should be avoided because they contain unsafe phthalates, softeners added to many plastics that are also found in some jewelry, food containers, and other soft rubber toys. 

In the 1990s, silicone rubber dildos became more popular, a trend that has continued as the prices have lowered. These are easier to clean and do not have the characteristic plastic aroma of PVC.  Silicone holds body heat well, and is also a robust material (especially when compared to the cheap, unsafe jelly rubber that many dildos are made of).

High-end, chrome plated steel dildos are very popular.  Some users prefer them because of their hardness, firmness, durability, and low friction, especially when used in conjunction with lubricant. Because they are heavy, they can be used to exercise vaginal PC muscles. (Betty Dodson's "barbell" is an example.)  A steel dildo may be warmed or cooled in water before use to elicit a range of temperature sensations. It may also retain body heat of the user. Because of its polished nonporous surface it is easy to clean.

Glass dildos have similar features to steel ones. Glass toys are solid, not hollow, and usually made of Pyrex or borosilicate glass, although this may vary depending on manufacturer. Like steel, glass toys may be used to apply firmer pressure than silicone can to a female's G-spot.

The Simple Art of Allowing...

 

A couple of weeks ago I managed to manifest a ticket to see Esther and Jerry Hicks, more commonly known as 'Abraham-Hicks'.  They travel the world speaking to groups of people about Abraham.  Abraham being a group of non-physical, if that makes sense.  A friend of mine introduced me to Abraham-Hicks about 18 months ago, and I've been getting their daily quotes ever since for which I am extremely grateful.  Their extracts can make a huge difference depending where and whom I happen to be working for.

During their talk in London one of the things that Esther channeled was that by being joyful we allow everything we desire to come to us.  Love it!  So basically once I'm clear what I want, I simply ask the Universe and then allow the whatever it is I want to come to me by being happy, loving, in a good space.  Whatever phrase works for you.  And if getting into that space feels challenging find a way.  The big a-ha moment for me was realising that my two eight month old kittens are the thing that can get me straight into the space of loving, of being open and even experiencing total bliss.  And all this comes from simply stroking them, hugging them, having them curl up on my lap, purring...which seems to be as straight forward as breathing to them :o)

An update on life and the Universe

My computer went into gradual demise about three weeks ago, and I'm finally back with the land of the living again.  I don't know why I'm always so surprised at how anxious I get when I'm suddenly unable to communicate with the outside world, and especially for such an extended period of time this time, or so it feels.

A lot has been going on in that time.  Plenty of shifting and changing and new awarenesses.  Noticing the patterns in life and the situations I create.  How quickly I pick up on these and whether I decide to do something different with them, or simply create more of something that gives me a lot of pleasure and feels good.

My thoughts and what I create from them also amuse me.  How quick I catch the old familiar standard phrases and responses and change them into a positive affirmation within a split second of noticing them.

I still seem to be purging and clearing my home.  This has been ongoing for weeks now.  Initially it was a clearing out process.  Even though I've thought of myself as quite minimalist.  Especially with all the moving home I've done over the past years.  I had packing and downsizing down to a fine art.  But despite all that there is still plenty to do with finding new homes for things, re-arranging and re-organising cupboards and drawers and shelves.  I suppose most of it is de-cluttering, and clearing the space.  Getting rid of things that hold an energy I'm no longer in tune with.  It's a way of 'upping my game', stepping up to the mark.  Letting the Universe know I'm ready for whatever it has to offer.

Having a clean and tidy home, or Ivory Castle as I sometimes like to think of it,  allows me to safely fall apart, to feel, heal, let go of, to learn.  There's nothing to clog up the channels or get in the way.  And this is certainly what seems to be going on. 

The Ancient (and Sensual) Art of Belly Dancing

Belly Dancing, like all dancing, is a deeply spiritual experience. It’s one of the fastest ways to unite with the divine, and to become aware of your inner space. When you dance, and you truly let go of your inhibitions, the barriers between mind, body and spirit can disintegrate. Femininity and spirituality become one.

In the Middle East, Belly Dancing originated as exercises for pregnant women to prepare them for childbirth. The dancing took place away from men, and was performed by women for each other. At certain phases of a woman’s life, menstruation, wedding, birth and death, women would join together and dance to honour the occasion.

Belly Dancing is perfectly suited to the female body, and its’ roots are firmly lodged in fertility and birth rituals all over the world. In ancient societies people lived close to each other and in harmony with nature, very differently to the way most live today. These people were ritualistic and many of these rituals were performed through dance, they were major social events that united the community. Although we know dance was a form of prayer and emotional expression, to these people it was an important magical practice. Men and women would dance to try to understand the mysteries of life and nature, and most importantly, birth and death. Fertility was a matter of survival for these cultures, and because of this, women often held key social positions, as they held the key to staying alive.
